BARRY PETERSON Artist and Architect, Barry Peterson has been focusing lately on working with the etching press and on still life drawing done on location in local restaurants and pubs, after spending many years working from the human figure in the studio. The moody and ancient atmospheres from printmaking are a natural for Barry. Leslie and Barry have been perfecting a non-traditional printing technique on their etching press called "Xerox Transfer". Barry has also been producing copper plate etchings using various traditional techniques and thereby producing some very thickly atmospheric works. After being and apprentice architect at Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin and Taliesin West, Barry eventually founded his own firm; Studio 300A Art + Architecture, housed here at 300A. Barry is just about to break ground on a large church in Santa Cruz County in partnership with Bay Area legend, Warren Callister. He has also completed a number of delicate, sparse and rustic renovations in Marin, and has recently completed a uniquely small, sun-filled residence in Sausalito. Barry also serves on the Planning Commission here in town, after having chaired the Arts Commission for 2 years. Barry and Leslie recently partook in a week long workshop at the legendary CROWN POINT PRESS in SF for some intense "full immersion" printmaking. Barry and Leslie are both very active in their community, especially on projects that involve improvements to the visual character of their town. The Industrial Center Building (ICB) where studio 300A resides, is an old ship-building structure on the Sausalito waterfront in the historic "Marinship" district, built by Bechtel and Henry Kaiser in 1942 for the production of Liberty Ships and other war vessels. For decades, the building has been home to over 100 artists, 90 of which will be participating in the 40th WINTER OPEN STUDIOS event on the first weekend of December this year. Studio 300A is a great hub for these events. |
