Artist Statement
In the last five years, my painting series have been based on spirit. Whether it’s the spirit in nature, the spirit of compassion and forgiveness, or the spirit of our ancestors and culture, I try to convey to the viewer the strong feelings that come from spirit.

Comment from a patron:
”Your painting…is the best combination of visual beauty and symbolic intrigue.”

Bio
I have been painting since childhood. My first formal art classes were at the Minneapolis Museum of Art when I was eight. I was awarded first place for a realistic drawing of a horse's head. Seeing it on display inspired a lifelong passion for me.

My training continued with many art classes through the years (University of Minnesota: 1965-69, Minneapolis College of Art and Design, 1979, College of Marin, 1991 - 93, 2001-03, San Francisco State, 1994) plus numerous workshops.

For four years in the 70's, I was a gold and silversmith, and had a retail shop, a wholesale business and a booth at the Minnesota Renaissance Art Fair. After incorporating painted jewelry into my work, I realized my true love was painting. I went through many mediums over the years (oils, pastels, watercolors, collage, mixed media, monoprints). Currently I use acrylics, oils and sometimes mixed media, which are the perfect fit for my love of color, texture and layering.

Throughout my painting career, color has been my main passion. Whether I’m doing abstract or more realistic paintings, I always use color to express the feelings I want to convey.  In addition, I usually employ complex layering to my paintings. As I work on an idea, I start by layering the various colors, then get into a meditative state which gives expression to the images and stories of the painting.

My paintings are created using archival quality paints, papers and canvases. They are in private collections both in the United States and internationally, and in corporate spaces and offices. I was awarded the Best of Show for the International Society of Acrylic Painters in 2005 and had a painting featured in the Artweek April 2008 issue.
