MARIAM ELLINGSON Painting takes up a large portion of my life. It has become the interface between the spiritual, the psychological and the material. I believe the necessary ingredients for optimum creativity. Aside from the calling of the muse, are: space, time and intention. I have committed to coming to my studio five days a week, a regularity which adds confidence, experimentation and excitement to my work. What happens there is a messing about, even allowing stupidity or, as I read somewhere, allowing myself to be a "Fool of God". Most of my art in the past has been about painting the familiar. Now I'm looking for what I do not know. It's similar to Michaelangelo carving into the marble removing all that is unnecessary.
