RHODA DRAWS
(phome) 415 388 7706
The artist formerly known as Rhoda Grossman works in both traditional and digital media to create portraits and figurative paintings. Bold, expressive portraits and gestural figure drawings line both her studio walls and her hard drive. Rhoda’s approach to figure drawing is distinctive. She brings a portable computer and pressure-sensitive graphics tablet to a session with the model. Dozens of quick poses are created using Corel Painter. The best of these nude gestures are printed on a range of archival papers and some will inspire new paintings in oil or acrylic. Rhoda often combines two or more of the simple poses digitally to develop more complex compositions that will also be explored in traditional ("messy") media. Current work includes some double-nudes that began as digital gesture drawings, then were translated to canvas, photographed and repainted digitally to explore the next stage. This process might continue for several more iterations. "I never tire of finding ways to blend digital and traditional techniques." You can commission Rhoda to paint a portrait from your photo in real oils, acrylic or pastels or in a range of digital styles. Rhoda is the author of several books on the creative use of pixel-based drawing and painting software. Also known as the “pixel-packin’ mama,” she has taught computer graphics techniques at several schools in the bay area and authored numerous tutorials on CD for both Adobe Photoshop and Corel Painter users. Her domain (literally!) is digitalpainting.com. Your visit to Rhoda’s ICB studio is likely to include a demonstration of digital painting, including hands-on experience. She encourages artists at any stage or any age to try this new medium for self-expression. One-on-one training is available. Recent Publications: Recent Group Shows:
